  • Avoidable v. Unavoidable Pressure Ulcers [PDF]  
    Description: The debate continues as to when pressure ulcers are unavoidable. Most are pressure ulcers are avoidable, but as this article explains other serious medical conditions can make pressure ulcers difficult to prevent. Therefore it is critical for nurses to provide consistent pressure relief to reduce the risk of developing pressure ulcers.

    Description: A recent study debunked the theory that maggots are effective for treating pressure ulcers. The study found that maggots are no more effective than traditional therapy and patients receiving "maggot therapy" suffer more pain than patients receiving traditional therapy.
